Some people are all about tournament day and being completely present is huge but for me it all starts weeks before, almost every event is a new lake, new bite and looking at google maps and pouring over fish reports only goes so far you just need to get wet enter Barry Pollard. Great guy even better fisherman and was super kind and took me out on his brand new Basstracker and showed me the lake we barely fis…hed, really it was just a complete tour of Rocky Fork lake this was a real big deal for me, I came up with a game plan of just leaving from check in and just spend all my time fishing and there was a little of everything thee lake has to offer.
A lesson was learned. On tourney day i’m biting at the bit to get out on the water and start the day and right off the bat i’m getting hits and pull in a twelve incher thinking that the bite is on i just throw her back in the water, not taking a pict, this is the lesson always and i mean always measure all your fish no matter how small. I spent the rest of the day covering tons of water in the Hobie Pro Angler 14, freshwater ahead and purple worm in hand I land a 17.5 fatting and a 16.5 piglet and spend the rest of the day thinking about the 12 incher, all the way to the last hour i was hunting for a third fish to close out my 3 fish, I got lucky in the last hour to land a 11 inch fish.
With time running out a fellow angler loses his really nice rod so i try helping him dredge the bottom and try cracking some lame jokes to cheer him up but it’s tough, losing a nice rod hurts. Its measure in time and i got three fish, it was a long day and not many bites but Bayview being a great sponsor of the event is grilling out for us.
Come to find out that i got 3rd and if I would have taken a pict 12 incher i would have had second, learn from my mistakes measure all your fish. This was a great event with fun people and stiff competition congrats to everyone who came out, good job to Mike Murphy and Shawn Stone who came in 1st and second and a shout out to Travis for a 19 inch big fish and 4th you guys rocked it.
